Two daring mental strolls, taking the shape of a fashion performance: In their usual casual manner, Gintersdorfer/Klaßen exercise subtle irritations in portraying the world, relying on the transformative powers of fashion creations and figures of thought in science fiction.
If, as in the case of the Berlin Humboldt Forum, an architecture of the past is sold to us as the future, we need science fiction more than ever to break free from the prevailing conservative backlash and to establish and develop ethics that are beyond the humanist, much more a part of the monstrous. The performers in the two monologues follow this train of thought through self-fictionalization and costume arguments.
1: In GOTT IST WANDEL, Hauke Heumann analyzes the storytelling in novels from his favorite authors Octavia Butler and Dietmar Dath, to further investigate their political utopian content. And: is there a way to bring together the inhuman personality aspects of Dath’s figures with Paul B. Preciado’s “Je suis un monstre qui vous parle”?
2: In KINDER WA®GEN, Gotta Depri speaks about the aging Germans, wishing to rejuvenate themselves. How strange then, that the migrant population that was assigned this mission is labeled as an “invading culture“ and an economic threat. A small letter, like a slip of the tongue, can transform things, can change worlds in the meaning or simply enhance the sound.
Gintersdorfer/Klaßen have been developing projects since 2005 in which they center the performer’s life strategies and forms of expression, confronting them with their own strategies and aesthetics. The German-Ivorian team has turned into a transnational group that works across different genres. By doing so, the performers transcend their own disciplines like dance, theater, music or visual art.
