Monologue Festival 2021 – Program
21 Oct
22 Oct
The age of combustion will have come to its end. Before its traces disappear, the PARA Emission Evidence Center (EEC) is securing evidence for the coming trial against humanity. (Off-site venue & open air @U-Heidelberger Platz + 10 min walk to meeting point. Info in the long text)
Please notice the information about the off-site venue at the end of the text.
At a time when more and more traces are being covered up, PARA invites the dead of tomorrow to testify in smoke. The Emission Evidence Center (EEC) sorts the ashes, inspects the smoke and surveys the haze. Suspicious emitting events in history are reconstructed and recorded as a chain of evidence for the investigation questions of the future.
A temporary climate-crime scene is created: Why were there chimneys smoking on the horizon? Why did the inhabitants of London walk with torches in 1952? Testimonies about oil fires, combustion engines, meat production, wildfires… what will have been burned? And for what purpose? What takes shape is a psychogram of man as a smoke-producing being and a collection of ephemeral exhibits: sacks of smoke, charcoal dust, burning greaves. The EEC is collecting evidence here in the present for a trial of the future.
Important information: The event will take place open air near U-Heidelberger Platz on a vacant lot. From there you have a view of the well-known Wilmersdorf cogeneration plant, which is currently being dismantled. Here is the exact meeting point at Forckenbeckstr. 86 (14199) Berlin at the construction site entrance marked on Google Maps. Please be there at 17:45 with a ticket booked online and wear weatherproof clothing. Umbrellas will be provided if necessary. Subsequent events in the Monologue Festival at 8pm can be reached in time with a 10 minute walk + 25 minute subway ride. There will be a follow-up meeting in the subway for those interested.
PARA is a group of artists from Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt/M. that deals with questions of time. The collective explores future ruins, narratives of memorial politics and questions the cultural heritage suitability of current modes of coexistence. To this end, PARA works interdisciplinarily, site-specifically and performatively, with techniques of re-construction and speculation, between research and fiction.
